Confessions of an Office Dough Whisperer
Cookies Foster a Spirit of Togetherness Among Office Members
My weenie dog is my daily source of happiness. Winnie is my partner in crime, when I first got her as a puppy I took her with me on sales calls. For some clients, she was able to brighten their day.
When I am not working or spending time with Winnie, I am most likely swimming, crafting, or baking. Baking is one of those hobbies I could not live without. By far my favorite thing to bake is chocolate chip cookies. I have experimented with many other desserts as well like graduation cakes and lemon bars.
Baking and giving to others brings me joy, so I incorporated that into my work. Sometimes I will bring goodies into the office or to my clients. This helps to make the office environment feel more friendly.
Before I decided to come to Century I had worked a variety of jobs like event planning, hairstyling, eyebrow waxing, and other side hustles. I even did a side hustle that allowed me to organize other people’s houses.
When I graduated college, I earned a degree that would have allowed me to do event planning and tourism, but it was the year of the COVID outbreak. COVID didn’t allow me to pursue a career in that field. People close to me advised me to try sales because I had the personality for it.
My uncle was working for Century, and he was able to get an interview for me, so that is how I ended up coming here.
I love the energy here when it comes to events. I help plan events and I will never forget the 40th anniversary party we celebrated. There were over 100 people there and I got to help set it up. It was an exciting time and a fun event.
Something that drives me to keep working hard in my position is that I can help people. The most important thing to me is to be a genuinely decent human all the time. Many people in sales will try to upsell customers because they want to earn more money, but I think it is just about finding the right product that is necessary for the client. I try to build a community that allows clients to spread our services by word of mouth because we aren’t just upselling everything. In the end, I want clients to remember me as the girl who brought them cookies.
Of the core values at Century the most important one is team player. All our departments within the company must work together and communicate to keep everything flowing. It takes a team to have a successful company.
If you trust the plan and go with the flow of things, life will take you where you are meant to be. Everything happens for a reason.
