Our Story
History of Century Business Technologies
Based in Topeka, Kansas, our business was founded in April 1981 as Century Office Products, Inc. of Topeka (COPI) by Mel Woods and Marshall Hanson, primarily selling and servicing copiers, fax machines, laser printers, postage and word processing equipment. Their primary philosophy was their commitment to providing quality products with outstanding service to their customers.
As they soon outgrew their original location with 5 employees, a new 11,000 sq.ft. Corporate office was built at 401 SW 30th Street in 1984. In 1990, COPI then changed their name to Century United Companies, Inc. as a result of extensive business growth and mergers, bringing acquired companies under one “United” umbrella.
Before leaving the business by 2014, Mel and Marshall provided Century employees with passionate leadership and the vision of becoming one of the largest independent dealerships of office equipment in Kansas. We are sincerely thankful to them for providing us a “family friendly” atmosphere to work in and for the extraordinarily fun times we had over the years under their guidance.
Today, Marshall Hanson and his wife Cindy are now retired in Silver Lake, Kansas where they are enjoying their family farm as well as their children and grandchildren who live close by. Mel Woods and his wife Dorean are also retired and are enjoying RV life in Merritt Island, Florida, however, still visiting their children and grandchildren in Kansas and Missouri whenever they can.
