Time with family

Juggling Work, Kids, and Chaos: Kelly Abbey's Quest for Quality Time

Coaching is one of my favorite things to do. I coach my two sons in football, baseball, soccer, and track. Track is one of my favorites because I loved the 800-meter run in high school and all the moving pieces of track make it enjoyable. One of our other employees at Century volunteers at practices to coach the discus throwers.

Being involved with my family in these ways is only possible because of the family friendly orientation at Century. This allows me to be able to coach, take care of my boys, and the pets as well. We have a home for a dog, cat, guinea pig, bunny rabbit, and some baby blue jays I have rescued.

I haven’t always been at Century, I started out in the legal field. I’ve worked for state contracted companies as well as the State Attorney General’s Office. This is where I can say I’ve developed my organizational skills as well as my black and white views on time management.

These work experiences have led to me deciding that the public sector is not where I want to be. I came to Century looking for a change, something more private. This small business has a community that my previous jobs didn’t.

At Century you almost have to actively make an effort not to be part of the Century family. We host numerous events inside and outside the office for our employees to get to know each other better. I help with the event coordination, which allows me to be more involved and I love putting on events for employees.

At Century the most important core value to me is the team player value. Century is a smaller company so that means that people who stick with it long-term are those that are always willing to jump in and help. This way we can make sure that everything gets done.

In my position I make sure things get done by seeing that clients are always assisted anytime they need help. I love that I can see through that all the issues get solved, this is the interaction I was looking for in a career.

The most important thing I have learned from my experiences with work and personal life is that not everything has to be planned out. You don’t have to know exactly what is going to happen next at every given moment. Take the time to reflect and enjoy every given moment.
