Balancing Passion: From Running to Programming

My life is a blend of two seemingly different worlds: competitive running and software development. Growing up in Maple Hill, Kansas, amidst the serene Flint Hills, running became my passion early on. XC and steeplechase are my favorite—it’s the perfect mix of endurance and challenge that keeps me hooked. Not attending college wasn’t a setback for me; in fact, it allowed me to fully embrace my love for running and programming.

Although running is my anchor, family is my heart. With three kids under ten, finding balance is key. I’ve shifted focus to 10k races—they keep me fit without consuming too much family time. Besides running, my faith guides me. I’m active in my church, contributing to Vacation Bible School and supporting Gideons International.

Before joining Century, I spent years at a cattle farm, an experience that shaped my work ethic. Now, at Century, my love for programming drives me. Inspired by my dad, a programmer, I’ve found joy in crafting applications.

The challenge of coding is like solving puzzles—I adore puzzles, from sudoku to multilingual word games. I’ve been studying Japanese, French, and Spanish, languages that intrigue me as much as programming challenges do.

At Century, the atmosphere is different—it’s the people. Integrity is foundational, but innovation drives me. I relish the freedom to innovate, applying the OODA loop and taking calculated risks to improve our products. Releasing new applications here is exhilarating; it’s about creating something valuable for users and pushing boundaries in tech.

My journey from running through the Flint Hills to programming at Century has taught me that passion knows no boundaries. Whether it’s crossing the steeplechase hurdles or solving coding puzzles, each challenge enriches my journey. Balancing family, faith, and career, I’ve found fulfillment in both the physical and digital realms. Running keeps me grounded; programming fuels my creativity. It’s a life where integrity guides and innovation thrives—a life I’m grateful to live.
