Island Explorer

Office to Oasis: Island-Hopping Employee Finds Serenity

Shopping and vacation are the most exciting activities for me. Every year for one week, my husband and I travel to a different island. Of all the islands I have visited over the years, Jamaica has been my favorite.

Jamaica stands out to me because of the people that live there. They always want to talk to you about their country and their culture. The first time we visited Jamaica, we asked some locals what time it was, and they said, “It doesn’t matter; you’re on vacation. You are on island time.”

When vacation is over, we feel rejuvenated to jump back into our work. My line of work is a little different than what I started out with. After I earned my degree in fashion merchandising, I worked as an accessory buyer for a store. I went to markets two times a year to buy accessories for the store.

The business I was working at closed, and that led me to where I am now. I found a job at Century and have been here ever since. I stayed with Century because I love how well I get to know customers. Most people stay at their current jobs for a long time, and it allows me to get used to them. Even if you don’t see them every day you know who they are by the tone of their voice. I love getting to have good relationships with customers.

Century prides itself on its customer service, and I back that up. We don’t have automated phone systems, so as soon as you call in, you get a person. If the person you called can’t help, then your call gets passed down the line to someone who can help.

Longevity is another aspect of Century that stands out to me. A lot of us have been around here for a long time. Our customers get used to that.

The people here also know how to have fun. Every year we celebrate Christmas, and everyone works hard to put the parties together. I love to dress up and see everyone at these parties because the outside offices aren’t around everyone as often.

The Century team gets along well with each other and lives up to the team player core value well. When it comes to business it takes all of us as a team and not just one person carrying all the weight.

My best advice for anyone is to be patient. Good things come to those who wait. Things won’t come all at once and you will have to work for those things. Too many people expect things to come at one time, but it won’t happen that way and you must be patient.
