SWAT to Sales: Sharpshooter Finds Success at Century Business Technologies
Competitive shooting is a hobby I participate in outside of work, and my favorite events are steel match pistol shooting and IDPA defensive pistol shooting.
My enjoyment for these events is closely linked to my 22-year career as a law enforcement officer. The two most exciting assignments I received were with the southern Kansas SWAT Team and as Chief of Police at Valley Falls.
After those years as an officer, I decided it was time for a change. I pursued a new career in sales at BMW. This is where I met Will Blankenship, one of the managers. Blankenship spent four years actively trying to recruit me to Century.
When we ran out of microchips, we were unable to continue selling cars. That is when I decided it was time to switch to Century.
Century Business Technologies really stood out to me because it offered an opportunity to be involved in an industry that is on an upward trend at a company that is growing rapidly. Since starting at the company, I have had many great experiences. One of my favorites is when Kelly was dunked in the dunk tank at a company event in the summer.
There is never a shortage of fun events and exciting times with the people who work here. The teamwork here is another thing that we always have. It makes the company feel more connected, almost like a company family; this is the culture that makes me value Century more—thefamily-friendly approach.
Century’s family values make it stand out from other companies. It makes my job easier because I don’t have to come into a meeting with a high-pressure sales pitch. Meetings with clients are more like consultations where I can explain the services we offer, and if they decide to act on that offer, they can.
They also give me the peace of mind that I can spend time with my own family when I need it. I have kids, grandkids, a wife, and three dogs, and spending time with them is valuable to me. I love to go boating and fishing with my kids from time to time, and Century gives me the time to do that.
I wish I had realized when I was younger, the importance of taking care of your family and believing in yourself. If you can do those things, then everything else will work out.
